Growing up in the South's "tornado alley," severe weather is part of my normal. The science of weather and understanding how a perfectly normal day can turn extremely dangerous is invigorating. I'm a formally trained storm spotter and while some may use the weather to fill a void in conversation, I can talk about it for days -- and in detail.
DIY-er
Intrigue and curiosity often drives me away from the easy path to attempt DIY projects large and small. I've built fences, knocked out walls, renovated floors and built furniture -- with my own hands, a little research and a couple of times while heavily pregnant. I'm not a professionally trained carpenter, but my kids draw on a beautiful table built from scratch.
